Forum Title: Mohawk gentle essence vs stainmaster riding high?
We are now pet-less, and the master bedroom carpeting needs to be replaced. We found mohawk gentle essence (smart strand) and stainmaster riding high (nylon). I have found online reviews, mostly negative, about both, but happy consumers don't generally post opinions! Any opinions on either of these products? There are just two of us living here, and I expect we will downsize in 10 yrs or so.......thank you!

When you say Mohawk smart strand you are referring to the new Triexta fiber from Mohawk. Unless the nylon you are talking about is 6.6 BCF nylon (which most consumers wont know) there is no comparison. Triexta is the better fiber here not because of wear but because of its natural cleaning ability that nylon does not have. All carpet fibers can potentially stain but Triexta and solution dyed polyester clean better than any other fiber. In your case cleaning is important but since it's just the two of you, wearability is the more important factor. I would recommend a high grade of nylon (like Shaw Anso nylon) or the Triexta Smart Strand from Mohawk. Good luck!

Hands down better than a solution dyed poly. Yet to have an issue - Can draw on it with a sharpie and poof stain gone. SD nylon - the best of both worlds
